The United States hopes that both Japan and its neighbors will find constructive ways to deal with sensitive issues from the past, to improve their relations, and to promote cooperation in advancing our shared goals of regional peace and stability.
We take note of the Prime Minister’s expression of remorse for the past and his reaffirmation of Japan's commitment to peace.
日本は大切な同盟国であり、友好国である。しかしながら、日本の指導者が近隣諸国との緊張を悪化させるような行動を取ったことに、米国政府は失望している。
米国は、日本と近隣諸国が過去からの微妙な問題に対応する建設的な方策を見いだし、関係を改善させ、地域の平和と安定という共通の目標を発展させるための協力を推進することを希望する。
米国は、首相の過去への反省と日本の平和への決意を再確認する表現に注目する。

まず、国会での「数の力」を背景に特定秘密保護法を成立させた。次に外交・安保政策の指針「国家安全保障戦略」を決め、国防力強化を打ち出した。来年は集団的自衛権の行使を認める憲法解釈の変更に取り組む。安倍カラーは危険なまでに加速している。
「中韓両国に対し日本政府は自制しているという国際的評価を一年かけて積み上げてきたが、靖国参拝はこの評価を台無しにする」（外務省幹部）との懸念が現実になった。
